Welcome!

I'm your host, Alicia Vogel, proprietor of The Un Stable.  What is the model horse hobby all about?  To the wikipedia!  In addition to collecting, I'm also a member of the North American Model Horse Shows Association (NAMHSA.)

About Me

I started collecting in 1982, and customizing in 1986 when I was exposed to model horse showing and the hobby in general.  Good ol' JAH!  I have a MA in Fine Art, and work on paintings, drawings, and comics.  My day job, like the rest of the planet it seems, is in IT.  I'm a big fan of science fiction, fantasy, and animation, and go to related conventions regularly.  My real horse experience (outside of the usual backyard horse hopping while growing up) is in dressage.  I formally took lessons for four years with an Andalusian breeder/trainer before the facility went bankrupt.  Before my lessons stopped, I was about training level 2.  Personally, I'm just giddy to have a seat.

As far as the hobby goes, I like to do a little bit of everything.  My finishwork has garnered NAN Top Tens (yay!)  I don't have the output of a lot of artists in the hobby, and I don't take commissions.  My outside interests and a full-time job doesn't allow for the time.  I've also ventured into tackmaking and performance.  An Arabian Native costume of mine won Grand in it's class at NAN 2002.  More recently I got a Reserve Grand at NAN 2010 in Dressage (Tack by Jana Skybova, setup and "bling" browband by myself.)  I'd like to venture into crafting dolls, so I'm currently trying to cut projects and refine my goals.
